Synthetiq

WE REVISIT SYNTHETIQ’S RARE GROOVE NIGHT
As the Glam Rock and Disco scene were winding down, a new sound was emerging on the fringes at the end of the 70s. Geeky guys with synthesizers and drum machines were inventing what would later be called the “New Wave”.
The big groups from this genre of the mid 80s like Devo, Kraftwerk, Yaz and Depeche Mode, all had their origins in this late 70s/early 80s “synth” sound.
This was the music that was first played on college radio stations in the underground days of New Wave.

This new sound could be heard on stations like WHPK, WNUR and of course WBMX.

In the Chicago bars and clubs like 950, Octagon Room, Neo, Medusa’s, Lizard Lounge, Smart Bar and The Edge of the Looking Glass, just to name a few.
When DJs and other music ‘philes flocked to Import Records and WaxTrax and the old Gramaphone to get the latest wax from artists and groups like:
Ann Clark, C Cat Trance, The Flirts, Echo and the Bunnymen, Blancmange, Heaven 17, Yello, My Mine, Ministry, Joy Division, M, Love and Rockets, Modern Romance, Section-25, Cabaret Voltaire, Telex, Vicious Pink, as well as the more known groups that still get played today (Joy Division, The Cure etc.).
Come join us at Maria’s Community Bar and music haven, where long time DJs Vic Lua & Ron Solera will take you down memory lane and play tracks from their respective and extensive collections of rare and vintage 80s New Wave, 90s Techno and even some choice cuts from this genre’s current reincarnation of the 80s sound in today’s Electronic Rock.

And the best part is that you don’t have to wear Parachute pants or a Members Only jacket, OR pay a cover. Just sit back (or stand up) with your favorite libation (Maria’s has the best beer selection in the city), and enjoy the synth sound we all love to still groove to.
Pega la onda!   (Catch the WAVE!)
From 8 til close.
